Melody grew up in Florence, Alabama, a small town on the Tennessee River in the northwest corner of the state. She ended up with an unintentional pixie cut at five years old after an unfortunate incident involving sap from a pine tree. Melody ended up loving the change of a big haircut and the trend continued through high school with baby bangs, choppy layers, bobs and even another pixie or two. She went to college in Denton, Texas and graduated with a BA in History from the University of North Texas. Two weeks after graduating, she moved to St. Augustine, FL to live near her brother and decided to pursue her passion of hairdressing. She enrolled at the Aveda Institute in Jacksonville and landed an assistant position at Panache An Aveda Salon and Spa in St. Augustine. She began her career as a hairstylist there trained under some exceptional hairdressers. She was ecstatic to come work at Philosophie in 2013.

Making people look their best and feel fabulous is what it’s all about for Melody. She is a firm believer in changing your hair after any big breakup. She loves creating subtle, sun-kissed highlights and color that looks effortless, natural and compliments a client’s personality. She still adores pixie cuts and loves cutting with a razor.

Melody has two children, Marlow and Alonzo, with her husband, Jorge, who is a Saint Augustine native. She watches an embarrassingly nerdy amount of Jeopardy (which she hopes to one day be on!) and plays for team Trivia Newton-John on trivia nights at Ann O’Malleys.

Loretta Lynn’s “You Ain’t Woman Enough.” (She even sings it to her kids at bedtime)
